Why You May Need It - typical
uses of short term insurance
Scenario No 1) What if you are
driving a friend’s car for just a couple of days for some reason. You
have no insurance or your insurance only covers one specific vehicle.
Then the inevitable happens; you have an accident. Someone runs into
you. You hit something. Or heaven forbid, you hit a person. If one of
these situations occurs, adequate insurance could be a lifesaver and you
would not have nightmares about how to pay the cost to repair the other
driver’s vehicle, repair damage done to multiple vehicles, homes or
other property or even, the ultimate horror, personal injury
compensation; if any of these scenarios did occur, your policy should
cover you and the financial stress would be the insurance company's, not
yours. If you had taken out fully comprehensive cover the damage to your
friend's car would be covered too. A short term policy could be the
answer to all these possibilities.
Scenario No 2) You have been
considering purchasing a new vehicle. This might be the perfect time,
financing is great and you just might have seen the perfect vehicle.
However, before you sign on the dotted line, you want to test drive the
vehicle or have it checked out by your own mechanic. Short-term car
insurance could protect you temporarily during the time specified while
you are test-driving your vehicle, in the absence of other suitable
cover.
Scenario No 3) You need to move some furniture or other household
effects but your own car isn't big enough; simple, you borrow your
friend's bigger car and arrange short term cover.
Scenario No 4) You are going on
holiday and need a bigger car for a couple of weeks but to hire one will
cost you a mint. An option may be to borrow one from a friend and get it
covered by a short term policy.
Scenario No 5) Your children are
away at college. They do not need their vehicles while away, nor is it
reasonable to allow them to drive their car in an unfamiliar city where
they can't park it safely anyhow so during the time they are away, they
may not require their car to be insured. When returning home for the
holidays or during school breaks, short -term car insurance would be the
answer. Purchase the insurance before they arrive home. Their break
schedule is always available. You know exactly how long they will be
home. You can purchase short-term car insurance for the duration of
their visit.
Scenario 6) You own a car but
only use it very rarely, perhaps for holidays or even to take it to car
shows if it's a rare or unusual model. You wonder if you really need to
pay for yearly insurance and perhaps a short term policy could be the
answer.
